Portage Glacier Recreation Area

Visit Alaska's single most popular visitor attraction located 5.5 miles east from Milepost 79 on the Seward-Anchorage Hwy. Portage Glacier Recreation Area is 8,600 acres within the Chugach National Forest, and has a clear view across Portage Lake to the glacier. Large icebergs can be seen calving off the face into the 800-foot deep lake.

Guided tours, iceworm safaris and food are available. Wayside exhibits at entrance to Williwaw Campground and Explorer Glacier. Open year round.
