Skagway Alaska |
Skagway is located on the north end of the Lynn Canal, 90 miles northwest of the capital Juneau. Skagway is the northern terminus of the Alaska Marine Highway southwest ferry system and the southern terminus of Klondike Hwy.
Skagway is the oldest incorporated city in Alaska and grew incredibly during the Klondike Gold Rush. Following the gold rush, Skagway might have become a ghost town if it weren't for the construction of White Pass & Yukon Route Railway in 1898. Today, Skagway is supported primarily by summer tourism. The Klondike Gold Rush Nat'l Historic Park is the main tourist attraction. The City of Skagway is geographically the largest city in Alaska with 455 square land miles.
